NEW PATHWAYS

CHANGE THROUGH MOVEMENT

New Pathways is a med-free, non-invasive solution to improving attention, sensory processing, emotional regulation and many other common challenges.  At New Pathways, movement is used to create new, more efficient pathways for more optimal function of your brain.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MOVEMENT IS THE RIGHT SOLUTION FOR ME

If you or your child experience

one or more of the following symptoms, it is very likely that movement therapy is at least a piece of the solution for you.   Many factors impact our ability to be at our best, such as diet, exercise, sleep, family background, environment, and stress.  In searching for a solution, movement therapy is a safe and effective first step.  Movement can also be done in conjunction with other therapies that are already in place.   At New Pathways, we address symptoms rather than a specific diagnosis.  However, diagnoses can be a helpful tool.  We have experience and have helped clients make significant improvement with the following conditions and diagnoses:

COMMON SYMPTOMS

ASSESSMENT

First I will listen to find out what the need or problem is for you or your child.  Then I will do a physical assessment to determine if a neuro-motor component is a possible cause of the problem.  From that, I will recommend a course of therapy.  My goal is to help you and your child reach your maximum potential.

THERAPY VISITS

During your therapy visit I will teach you and/or your child specific therapeutic exercises to create new movement patterns.  Movement is one of the most effective ways to create new pathways in the brain.  These new pathways allow more effective processing of cognitive, sensory, and emotional information.

HOME EXERCISE

This is your homework.  Your exercises will be demonstrated clearly, and we will practice them together.  You will also be given a written program with diagrams. We are creating new neural pathways, and that requires practice.  The changes will take place as you or your child continue doing the exercises at home.

WHY  IT WORKS

The brain is already wired via nerves to receive messages and respond to the body.  Sometimes, the connections in the brain or between the brain and the body are not operating quite as they should which can result in processing errors.  In such cases, the brain may need to change it's connections, also known as neural pathways. Changing posture and movement sends new messages directly to the brain.  When this message is reinforced with time and repetition, new more efficient pathways are created so the brain can process information with greater speed, accuracy, and complexity.
